GIS Maps

A geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present spatial or geographic data. The City of Monroe maintains its own GIS system that can be used for a variety of purposes by the general public. While some functionality is disabled to the general public for security purposes (such as public utility layer details), a large number of datasets are available for general use through the City’s online viewer. Click the link below to directly access the City’s viewer.

Multiple base maps are available, though it is recommended new users select the 2015 aerial photo, which was supplied by SEMCOG. Some of the data layers that may be useful for residents include the following:

  • Parcels – delineates property boundaries for all properties within the City limits
  • Flood Plain – can assist residents with determining if a portion of their property is in a Federal flood hazard zone
  • Voting Districts and Locations – provides current polling places and delineates City voting precincts
  • Park Locator – guides residents to City park facilities
  • Monroe Trees – maps and identifies the City’s 11,000 living assets
  • Signs – lists public signs within the roadway areas
  • Building Footprints – indicates the areas occupied by buildings, as provided by SEMCOG circa 2015
  • Contours – delineates 5-foot elevation contours throughout the City.

Within the toolbox icon, users have ability to identify specific attributes of each layer, such as property information, tree species and size, etc. Users can also create and print custom maps by adding text and line work as desired, measure approximate distances, and directly link to the street view through the “TriView” tab.

Visitors are encouraged to check back frequently, as new functionality is being added all the time. Stand-alone maps are also developed from time to time, and are linked to this page as well.
